Patrimony
During the turbulent sixties and early seventies, the call for Quebec independence created a political and social maelstrom in Canada. For nearly ten years riots, bombings, labor strikes and violent street scenes were part of daily life in Montreal, the epicenter of battle. The most radical of the groups pushing for the independence of Quebec was the Font de Liberation du Quebec – the FLQ. PATRIMONY is about what happens in a family when one brother believes in civic action to achieve the changes he wants and the other brother turns to violence. Their young sister swings between them like a metronome.
What readers are saying:
"Although the three well-developed protagonists are fictional, the story is real. I was unaware of this conflict that took place during the 1960s in Montreal, but I learned a great deal through Morgan’s carefully researched work…This beautifully-crafted work will stay with me long after I’ve put the book back on the shelf."
"…takes a dramatic historical moment and shows the reader how social and political unrest can affect the lives of individuals. Morgan does an excellent job setting the historical scene, the Quebec Sovereignty Movement during the 1960s, building a dramatic and exciting tableau that captures the reader's imagination."
"This book is an all-nighter…Engrossing and realistic."
"Morgan does a good job of taking the reader into the turmoil of Quebec's sovereignty-movement era, highlighting the painful effects it had on a family with divided loyalties. It's a history lesson and a compelling story."
